More Players Drawn to Chess Tournament
A total of 82 players were ready for another round of chess competition on Friday 10th June. The College once again had the special role of hosting 12 teams from eight schools to compete in the Cardinia chess tournament.
It was another outstanding result for Pakenham Secondary College competitors. Congratulations to Harnoor Gill, Rose Sollis and Ryan Kloppenburg for scoring at the top of their teams. Well done!
The college chess team also continues to increase in size thanks to the commitment and support of teachers Sergio De Lima and Christian Ampongan, who dedicate their lunch times to provide a supportive learning environment for chess players.
Student Joshua Shelton is a great example. Having taken up the sport only this semester, he attends training sessions enthusiastically and willingly plays with more experienced players to sharpen his skills. So much so, that during this tournament, Joshua was placed as a runner-up in the middle years group – an outstanding result for such a new player to the game.
If you are curious and wish to have a go, come along to the Year 7 Centre at lunch times for an introduction to the game. Beginners are welcome.
