It’s Double Gold for the Chess Team, Again!
Congratulations PSC Chess team.
Pakenham Secondary hosted another regional chess tournament today (25th of June). We welcomed Berwick College, Berwick Lodge Primary and Fountain Gate Secondary. The tournament was divided in two divisions: Middle Years (up to year 9) and Open Secondary (up to year 12). Our school was represented by one Open Secondary team and two Middle Years who completely dominated the competition, coming in 1st place in both divisions!
Victoria Hendrick and Yven ‘The Pawn General’ Cole led the OS team with 6 out of 7 wins each, followed by Fahad Idrees and Amina Hussaini with 4 wins and a draw each. The MY team had Harrison Otten, Alex Ciobanu and Abby Farrell in front with 4 and a draw each, followed by Matthew Blanco, Arezo Hussaini, Tristan Waters, Aleisha Lippis and Elina Cole with 4 wins each. In our MY team B, Mary Sowter came first with 3 wins and a draw, followed by Samara Evans, 3 wins; and Cassidy Conlan, Braxton Burke, Gage Handley and Keilan Cole each with 2 wins and a draw.
This outstanding result qualifies Pakenham Secondary College to play State Finals in both divisions, to be held during term 4. Overall, Berwick College finished 4th, Berwick Lodge Primary 5th and Fountain Gate came last at 6th place.
Abby Farrel, Arezo Hussaini and Aleisha Lippis were also awarded medals for most improved players in the whole tournament.
