Ending her Junior Career on a High
Year 10 student Tegen Hyland has recently completed her junior hockey career on a high.
A player for 8 years at the local hockey club Casey Cannons, Tegen was spotted and selected to play for the Cirello Coaching Academy, providing an opportunity to gain international experience.
Training 5-7 hours per week, Tegan enjoyed teaming up with players from all over the country and playing in different locations in preparation for the Perth based event, .
With only 10% of players getting the opportunity to play with international squads, Tegan and her team were one of the lucky ones to compete against Malaysia and the Japan National under 16s team.
“That game was so much quicker. You had to make sure you had a good 9 hours sleep the night before to be ready”.
Although Tegen’s Junior days are over, and the season has come to an end, she has already started pre-season training with the Casey Cannons Women’s team.
Tegan is also involved in teaching hockey to young children at Lakeside Primary school.
The club and Tegen welcome new players.
If you would like to try the sport out, check out the club’s website for further information or have a chat to Tegen at school.
