Literature Units 1 & 2
In VCE Literature students undertake close reading of texts and analyse how language and literary elements and techniques function within a text. The study provides opportunities for reading deeply, widely and critically, responding analytically and creatively, and appreciating the aesthetic merit of texts.

Assessment
- Reading Journal and reflective response
- Close Reading Analysis of passages from texts
- Oral Presentation
- Extended Written Response (1000-1500 words)
- Examination
Previous Experience/Prerequisites
No pre-requisites or experience are required, however an enjoyment and appreciation of reading would be beneficial.
Future Pathways
The VCE Literature study provides students with the opportunity to engage in a range of learning activities. Students may develop employability skills (transferable to a broad range of fields of endeavor) such as: Communication; Planning and organising; Teamwork; Problem solving; Self-management; Initiative and enterprise; Technology; and Learning.
Literature Units 3 & 4
In VCE Literature students undertake close reading of texts and analyse how language and literary elements and techniques function within a text. The study provides opportunities for reading deeply, widely and critically, responding analytically and creatively, and appreciating the aesthetic merit of texts.
Areas of Study
In Units 3 and 4 students must study at least six texts, five of which must be selected from the VCAA Text List.
- Adaptations and transformations.
- Creative responses to texts.
- Literary perspectives.
- Close analysis analytical response.
Assessment
- Oral presentation or performance of an adapted text.
- Develop a creative interpretation of a text.
- Develop a written interpretation of a text and critical perspectives.
- Respond individually in writing to a set of three passages from the text.
- End-of-year examination, which will contribute 50 per cent.
Previous Experience/Prerequisites
No pre-requisites or experience are required, however an enjoyment and appreciation of reading would be beneficial. Completion of Literature Units One & Two, while not essential, would prove advantageous.
