Visual Communication Design Units 1 & 2

Unit One
Students are introduced to the various purposes of drawing such as visualization observational and perspective.
Students learn to appreciate how the design elements and principles effectively communicate ideas.
Students will investigate past and present Visual Communication Designs and will be asked to write about these.

Unit Two
Students explore the different forms of technical drawing.
They will learn the different styles in Typography and how they are applied to design. Students are introduced to a design brief and are expected to use the design process in the creation of final design works.

Unit 2

  • U201 Technical drawing in context.
  • U202 Type and imagery.
  • U203 Developing a brief and generating ideas.

Assessment

Student’s work is marked internally according to VCAA guidelines. All work must demonstrate the key skills as prescribed in the course handbook for this study. Mid and final year exams are considered in school assessment.

Visual Communication Design Units 3 & 4

Unit Three
Students study existing Visual Communications to create their own designs according to a brief. They study current Design Industry practice to further expand their knowledge of Visual Communications. Their final outcome relates to the Design Process, from the initial brief through to investigation of ideas.

Unit Four
Students continue to develop design concepts in the preparation of final presentations that addresses the complexities of the design brief. They present a pitch to their client.

Assessment

U303,U401 and U402 are marked as a SAT, the remaining units are SACS. All are marked according to VCAA assessment criteria. There is an end of year exam that contributes to the overall study score.
