Student Attendance
Regular school attendance has a proven, positive impact on a student's academic success starting in primary school and continuing into high school. As children grow older and more independent, families play an important role in making sure students get to school safely and making sure students understand why attendance is important to their success.

Absences add up!

What Families Can Do
Make school attendance a priority
-
Develop a regular bedtime and morning routine. Turn off electronics at bedtime. Lay out clothes the night before.
-
Avoid missing school unless your child is truly sick and seek help if chronic illness is a challenge.
-
Avoid scheduling vacations or well child medical appointments while school is in session.
-
Develop a back-up plan for getting to school with a family member, neighbour, or another parent.
-
If your child seems anxious about going to school, contact your child's team leader or sub-school coordinator, to work together to provide supports.
Help your child stay engaged in school
-
Talk with your child about his or her day at school. If there is anything at school that is causing your child to try to avoid going to school, be in touch with your child's team leader or sub-school coordinator right away.
-
Keep up to date on your child's academic progress; be in touch with teachers as needed. Encourage your child to talk with his or her teacher or to attend our homework club or other after school study opportunities.
-
Stay up to date on your child's social contacts. Peer pressure can often lead to skpping school when students with few friends at school sometimes feel isolated and avoid school.
-
Encourage meaningful after school activities, including sports, clubs and homework support opportunities.
Communicate with the College
-
Be aware of our attendance policy and check on your child's attendance to make sure they do not become chronically absent.
-
If your child seems anxious about going to school, talk to your child's team leader or sub-school coordinator, about working together to make a plan to provide supports.
-
Do not hesitate to ask for assistance from school stff or community agencies if you are having trouble getting your child to attend school - supporting regular attendance is a team effort.
Reporting Absences
If a student is unable to attend school, is going to be late or needs to leave early, the school must be informed of all absences, whether it be illness, appointments, holidays or any other reason.
The easiest way to inform the school is to Login to Compass with your Parent Login and “Add an Attendance Note”.
Compass can be accessed through the below button, or you can call the school office on 5945 1433 on the morning of the absence.
Students Leaving School Early
Please send a note with your child if they need to leave the College early. They will need to give this to their Team Leader/Coordinator, who will provide an Early Leavers Pass for the student to leave class. If this is not possible, please call the office on the morning of departure, so that an Early Leavers Pass can be given to your child at recess/lunchtime.
Teachers will not allow students out of class without a note.
If your child has an Early Leavers Pass, they can be waiting in Reception for you when you arrive at the College to collect them.
Thank you for your assistance with this matter.
First Aid at PSC
If your child feels unwell at school, they should ask their teacher for permission to visit Sick Bay. The teacher will provide a note for the First Aid Officer. Students are not permitted to contact parents directly. Our First Aid Officer/Nurse will administer basic first aid and either send the student back to class or, if necessary, contact parents for the child to be collected.
It is essential that correct protocols are followed. Students must visit the First Aid Office when unwell and should not contact parents directly.
Asthma Management Plan
It is important that all students with asthma have an Asthma Management Plan.
Parents or carers and the student's general practitioner (GP) should annually complete or review each student's Asthma Action Plan.
