Our Cultural Poles
The project was initiated by Library Assistant Julie Perkins and inspired by Aboriginal Morning Star Poles.
‘I was driven to create a project where students would find a way to express their cultural heritage’
VCAL students collaborated in the creation of the artwork that cover the two meter poles. Using their own cultural inspiration, students created pictures that resonated with them.
Just like Morning Star Poles which contain stories about the land and the environment.
Aboriginal culture describes the making of the poles as bringing you closer to your culture and ancestors. The poles are traditionally used for ceremonies, special artwork on each pole distinguishes for which ceremonies it is for.
The poles will be displayed in the library once completed.
