They did it again!

Pakenham Secondary College chess team has placed first in the Regional Championship Middle School Years, earning a place in the State Finals scheduled on the 28th October. An impressive result with the College taking six places in the top 10 of the competition.

The Regional tournament included 54 players from schools: Lavalla Catholic – St Paul’s Campus, Gippsland Grammar – Garnsey Campus, Drouin Secondary, Chairo Christian School and, Warragul Regional College.

College teachers and Chess Club advocates Christian Ampongan and Sergio De Lima are proud of their dedicated team, “The strong and dedicated team at the college has had an impressive record over the last several years, competing against many well-known schools around the state. It’s no surprise, with students practicing and coaching each other during their lunchtimes.”

Congratulations to the entire team, especially to year 9 student Tibesso Abduro-Witago, earning the gold medal for the regional tournament and Danian Kho, earning his medal for most improved player. What a team!
