Last week, the College Chess team competed in the National competition held at Melbourne University. Earlier in the year, 24 lucky Year 10 students attended a four day residential program at Rubicon Outdoor Centre in Nayook. Their focus was on Collaboration – Respectful Relationships and Character Strengths from the Positive Education movement. The Pakenham Secondary College Middle Years Chess Team have qualified in the 2017 National Australian Chess Grand Finals to be held on the 27th and 28th of November at the Queen’s College, Melbourne University. Students competed in late October, finishing 6th out of 26 champion schools from all over the State of Victoria. These entries are from the Year 10 Digital Photography class. The photographs were designed and composed by the students and then taken in a dark room. The camera was set to a slow shutter speed and with their torch function of their phones covered with coloured cellophane paper they were able to create unique light paintings. Students worked in groups to co-ordinate the photographs and then finally edited in Photoshop.…
The Clothesline Project was created to bring awareness to the issue of violence against women men and children. For those who have been affected by violence, it is a means of expressing their emotions by decorating a t-shirt. After the shirts have been decorated, they are hung on a clothesline display. The Open Secondary All Girls chess team is the best in the State! Their consistent outstanding performance is a result of a simple formula: hard work pays off! The team continues to train hard, meeting twice per day in preparation for the big competitions ahead.
